Technology at Home

South Shore Home Health Services – a home care agency and HCP member located in Oakdale, New York, hosted a Home Care Connect visit with Assembly Member Ginny Fields (D – Oakdale). The purpose of the visit was to introduce her to the benefits of home and community-based care and the use of telehealth in delivering care.

Fields visited the Bohemia home of patient Theresa Basile and the offices of South Shore Home Health Services to see firsthand how telehealth equipment enables Basile to maintain an independent and healthy lifestyle.

Basile, who has diabetes and also underwent a triple bypass, uses the equipment to monitor her clinical indicators, such as glucose, blood pressure, blood- oxygen levels and her weight on a daily basis. This technology allows nurses to identify remotely and address changes in a patient’s status. Using this growing technology often prevents the need for costly trips to emergency rooms and unnecessary or avoidable hospitalization.
